The Battle of Sisak was one of the most important victories in Croatian military history. Fought in 1593 near the confluence of the Kupa, Sava and Odra rivers, Croatian and Habsburg forces defeated a much larger Ottoman army. The victory stopped Ottoman expansion further into Central Europe and became a symbol of Croatian resistance during centuries of conflict between the Habsburg and Ottoman empires. Visitors today can explore Sisak Fortress, museums and riverside landscapes. The flat terrain around Sisak also makes it suitable for cycling and relaxed outdoor exploration.
