Castell Coch is one of Wales' most romantic landmarks, a fairytale-style castle hidden among woodland above the South Wales valleys. Although built in the 19th century rather than the medieval period, it was designed to recreate the appearance of a medieval fortress by architect William Burges for the wealthy Marquess of Bute. Inside, visitors can discover extraordinary Victorian interiors filled with artistic detail and fantasy-inspired decoration. The surrounding woodland walks make Castell Coch ideal for combining heritage with gentle outdoor exploration.
