Dunnottar Castle is a dramatic ruined fortress perched on a sheer clifftop headland on the north-east coast near Stonehaven. Once the impregnable stronghold of the Earls Marischal, it famously sheltered the Scottish Crown Jewels from Cromwell's army and offers some of the most photographed views in Scotland.
