Grianán of Aileach is one of Ireland's most impressive ancient hill forts, sitting high above the surrounding countryside near Donegal's Inishowen Peninsula. The stone ringfort dates back over a thousand years, although the hill itself has been important for much longer. It was traditionally associated with the rulers of the northern Uí Néill dynasty. The circular stone walls and elevated position provide incredible views across Lough Swilly, Lough Foyle and the surrounding mountains — combining perfectly with Donegal's famous hiking routes.
