Kasteel Amerongen is one of the Netherlands' finest aristocratic country houses. Situated along the Rhine near Utrecht, the estate has a history stretching back more than 700 years. The current castle was rebuilt after destruction during 17th-century conflicts and became home to the powerful Van Reede family. It later gained national importance when German Emperor Wilhelm II stayed there after fleeing Germany at the end of World War I. Visitors can tour elegant rooms filled with historic furniture and portraits, while the gardens and river landscapes offer peaceful walking routes.
