The National Wallace Monument is a striking Victorian sandstone tower rising from the wooded slopes of Abbey Craig, overlooking Stirling. Completed in 1869, it commemorates Sir William Wallace, the 13th-century knight who led Scottish resistance during the Wars of Independence. Visitors climb its 246-step spiral staircase past exhibitions — including the famous Wallace Sword — to a crown-topped viewing gallery with sweeping panoramas over the Forth Valley and the site of Wallace's victory at the Battle of Stirling Bridge.
