The Valley of the Temples is one of Italy's greatest ancient landscapes and one of the finest examples of Greek architecture outside Greece. Founded by Greek settlers in the 6th century BC, the city of Akragas became one of the richest and most powerful cities in the ancient Mediterranean. Today visitors can walk among enormous Doric temples, including the remarkably preserved Temple of Concordia. The surrounding area is ideal for outdoor exploration, with coastal walks, countryside cycling routes and campsites nearby.
