About the area
Levico Terme developed as a spa destination in the 19th century after the therapeutic properties of its mineral waters were discovered. The town flourished during the Austro-Hungarian period, evident in its elegant villas and parks. It became an important wellness destination for Central European aristocracy. The region has a complex history, having been part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire until 1919 when it was annexed to Italy following World War I. It was granted special autonomous status in 1948 to protect its German-speaking and Italian-speaking communities. The region maintains strong cultural ties to both Austrian and Italian traditions.
