About the area
Glenbrittle developed as a crofting community in the shadow of the Black Cuillin mountains. The area has long been a destination for mountaineers and walkers seeking to tackle Skye's challenging peaks, with the landscape shaped by glacial activity during the Ice Age. The Highlands have a rich history of Clan culture and were central to Scottish identity following the Jacobite risings of the 17th and 18th centuries. The region experienced significant social change during the Highland Clearances when many communities were displaced for sheep farming.
