About the area

Sligachan is historically significant as a traditional meeting point and rest stop on Skye, with its name derived from the Gaelic 'Slighe' meaning path or way. The Sligachan Hotel, established in 1884, became a base for climbers and walkers exploring the nearby Cuillin Mountains. The Highlands have been inhabited since the Stone Age and played a pivotal role in Scottish history, including the Jacobite uprisings of the 17th and 18th centuries. The region was dramatically shaped by the Clearances of the 18th and 19th centuries, when landlords cleared communities to make way for sheep farming.

32 hardstanding pitches with electric hook-up (6m x 9m), 11 hardstanding pitches without electric (6m x 9m), and large number of open grass pitches for tents and vehicles
