The Parenzana Trail follows the route of a dismantled narrow-gauge railway that once ran between Trieste and Poreč (Parenzo), now converted into a cycle and walking path through the vineyards and hill towns of the Istrian peninsula across Slovenia and Croatia.

Terreno

Gentle grades throughout, since it follows an old railway line — no steep climbs despite passing through hilly Istrian countryside, with old tunnels and viaducts along the way. Well signed and increasingly popular for shorter day rides between hill towns.

Consejos

The trail is easily split into shorter sections between towns like Buje, Grožnjan and Motovun if you don't want to ride the whole route — many people base themselves in one town and ride out-and-back sections. Summer heat can be intense inland; spring and autumn are more comfortable.
